The New Community Church of God in Christ Department of Women (DOW), under the capable leadership of our President, Evangelist Esther L. Greenfield, is made up of women of all ages who have a heart for ministry and are taught how to operate with a spirit of excellence. The organizational structure of the DOW at New Community resembles much of our National Women’s Department, where every age group, every gift, and talent is utilized to help build the Kingdom of God. Mother Greenfield teaches the women to “not be all over the place, but in their place!” That “place” is where God desires for them to be, whether it is with the Executive Board, Elder’s and Minister’s Wives Circle, Prayer and Bible Band, Purity unit, Sunshine Band, Evangelist and Missionaries, Hospitality, Young Women’s Christian Council, Christian Women’s Council, Nurses Unit, Pastor’s Aide Committee, Mother’s Board, Usher’s Board, and wherever else to help and assist the local church, District, and Jurisdiction.
In addition to the plethora of auxiliaries within the New Community DOW, throughout the year, the DOW hosts Women’s Day every fourth Sunday, with a dynamic women’s choir, has special services, and activities for fellowship such as the annual Rainbow Tea, 100 Women in Hats, My Sister’s Keeper, and much, much more! The New Community DOW is on the move with purpose and we are doing it as one in the body of Christ in these last and evil days! Much like our first Director of Women in the Church of God in Christ, Mother Lizzie Woods Robinson, we are reminiscent of Jeremiah 9:17-20 which states “Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come: And let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters. For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we spoiled! We are greatly confounded because we have forsaken the land because our dwellings have cast us out. Yet hear the word of the Lord, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and everyone her neighbor lamentation.”
Christian Women Council (C.W.C)
The New Community COGIC Christian Women’s Council (C.W.C.) is geared towards women 35 years and older, built to inspire women to use God-given gifts and talents to maximize the effectiveness of the units, bands, and auxiliaries in the church; for their own spiritual well-being, for a personal sense of accomplishment, to experience the satisfaction and joy that comes from unselfish giving, for the spiritual, natural and financial well-being of the church and for the upbuilding of the Kingdom of God.
To provide an opportunity for women to learn and/or to better understand the purpose, the value, and the results) of the work of Godly women in the home, in the church and in the community.
To encourage healthy, stable, happy and enduring marital, home and family relations.
To develop and implement innovative, Holy Ghost inspired, effective programs for the natural, spiritual, financial support and growth of the church.
To equip women with the necessary spiritual and select natural tools essential for spiritual growth.
To prepare women for effective, efficient supportive and leadership roles.
To prepare women to meet the challenges of this complex age to the saving of their souls, the souls of their families and the souls of countless others.
To teach women to recognize their divine destiny, according to the Word of God, and initiate and support activities that result in securing and retaining one's spiritual heritage.
To cultivate among women relationships characterized by mutual respect, trust, confidence and a shared interest in the work of the Lord, in souls, in life development and in the welfare of people at large, especially those of the “Household of Faith.”
The goal toward which the Christian Women’s Council continues the good fight of faith is that we are vessels fit for the Master’s use, that we are instrumental in the daily addition to the church of “such as should be saved,” and that we lay hold onto eternal life. The means by which we shall attain the goals identified in this Mission Statement are by embracing, in faith, with reverence and obedience, every Word of God which is our rule of faith and practice, and through the guiding, enabling, wonder-working Power of the Holy Ghost. Our ultimate goal is to hear our Savior say, “Well done ….”
Look and listen for the next C.W.C. event(s) on the New Community App or in the church’s bulletin.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
This phenomenal ministry is comprised of the mighty women of God housed at New Community Church of God in Christ. With one accord, we minister in song every fourth Sunday of the calendar year. Our mission is to declare the Word of the Lord through song. Our intention is to: Offer the musical component of worship during church service; help prepare the way for God’s people to receive His Word; Clear the atmosphere to allow freedom in praise; to bring joy to the hearts and minds of God’s people. With grateful hearts, we offer God a Joyful Noise!
We are under the leadership of District Missionary Esther L. Greenfield, The Department of Women. Presently, the Choir President is Sister Thecla Brown and the Vice President is Missionary Alaina Hunt.
