Pastor Willie R. Hunt
Pastor Hunt was born to Mr. and Mrs. Willie Hunt in the winter of 1958 in Rochester, New York. Elder Hunt is the fifth of eight children. After graduating high school, he served for eight and a half years in the United States Air Force. On May 10, 1977 he married JoAnn White in Washington D.C and they are blessed to have three loving children: Maurice, Michael, and Kimberly as well as two beautiful daughters – in – law, Alaina Doreen, married to Maurice and LaTashia Patrice, married to Michael. Maurice and Alaina have favored their parents with two grandchildren, the apple of Pa-Pa’s eye, Simone Elise and the newest member Stephen Jamal -‘Bubba’.
Pastor Hunt received his call to the gospel ministry at Mason Temple COGIC in Conway SC in 1981 while serving under the leadership of interim pastor Superintendent Eugene Canty. He was later licensed a minister under the Pastorate of Elder James Lee. He was ordained as an Elder in the Maryland Central COGIC State Convocation in 1987 by Bishop Stanford L. Butts, Jurisdictional Prelate.
On March 14, 1990 Pastor Hunt accepted God’s call to Pastor and founded New Community COGIC. He is the President and CEO of the New Community Development Corporation, Administrative Assistant for Community and Governmental Affairs within the Greater Maryland First COGIC Jurisdiction. He served as the Jurisdictional Chief Adjutant and Financial Secretary of the Jurisdiction under the late Bishop David Washington Spann Sr. He is the President of the Minister's Alliance of Charles County and Vicinity. As President, his areas of focus are education, economic development, human services, health initiative and membership services to accomplish the work with local, state and federal agencies. Through the leadership of Pastor Hunt, the Ministers Alliance established the first Minority Business Center in the State of Maryland, which is used as a model in other areas of the country for small and minority businesses. Pastor Hunt's board memberships include the Human Services Partnership & Local Management Board, which oversees millions of dollars for funding for the Charles County Community and the Community Resource Board for the Woodrow Wilson Bridge project which was responsible for providing advice to the contractors during the construction of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and ensuring minority participation and contracts awarded. Pastor Hunt is the Chaplain for the Charles County Minority Officers Association and a member of the Prison Ministry.
Pastor Hunt continues to dedicate himself through distinguished service in leadership and community service. He has been honored with a number of awards, which include gubernatorial, senatorial and congressional recognition for his commitment to serve the citizens of Southern Maryland and surrounding communities. He leads a ministry that is exemplified by his service to God, to the Congregation, to the Community and to all People. Pastor Hunt's ministry efforts are to reach out to dying humanity in a holistic manner and minister to the needs of the Total man. And with the help of the Lord he is succeeding.
Pastor Hunt consistently proclaims our church’s mission, which is in our name: “We are New Community Church of God in Christ. We have been sent to Charles County Maryland by God to establish a new community of born again believers.” Our motto is: “Whosoever will, let them come.”
