“New Community Church Of God In Christ,” was the name God gave our pastor and founder, Elder Willie R. Hunt, when he heeded the call to pastor, on March 14th, 1990. Along with the new church’s name, the Lord also gave Pastor Hunt the church’s motto: “Whosoever will let them come.” Services began in the living room of the Hunt home in Capitol Heights Maryland, and the Lord mightily blessed the ministry from the very first day, as 20 individuals immediately joined. The Lord let Pastor Hunt know that within 60 days, his home would not be large enough to hold the congregation. And on the 59th day of the ministry, 13 individuals joined the ministry, bringing the total membership to 53, far more than the Hunt’s home was able to accommodate.
After prayer and seeking the Lord for a larger location, the Lord allowed New Community to move to a building at 4901 Marlboro Pike in Coral Hills, Maryland. This new site worked well for a while, but then the ministry suffered trying times and the membership decreased. During those trying times, the Lord was with Pastor Hunt and let him know that the ministry would come out more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37). Pastor Hunt moved the services back into his home in October 1991. Those members who remained with the ministry were encouraged to stay with the Lord. Pastor Hunt kept the ministry going in his home until he received further instructions from the Lord. By being obedient to the Lord, the ministry grew and received numerous visitors.
In June of 1992, the Lord spoke to Pastor Hunt and told him that He was again going to bless him and instructed him to go into
“uncharted areas,” specifically Charles County, Maryland. No further message was forthcoming until August 1992, when Pastor Hunt stood to deliver the morning message.
The Lord specifically said “Go to Waldorf,” and told Pastor Hunt that within the next three weeks, New Community would see Him move. Two weeks later, on a Wednesday afternoon, the Lord spoke to Pastor Hunt and told him to take his wife and go for a ride in Waldorf. Being unfamiliar with the area, Pastor Hunt and Missionary Hunt drove to Waldorf, awaiting God’s further instruction and guidance. Within 15 minutes of entering the limits of Waldorf, the Hunts were parked in front of what would become the new home of New Community, 3040 Leonardtown Road. The building had no signs indicating the owner, but they went home believing the Lord had led them to the place where He wanted the ministry to be. One week later, the building became the new home to New Community Church Of God In Christ, exactly three weeks as the Lord had said. The ministry remained at that location for the next eight years.
In October 2000, the Lord spoke again during a Sunday morning service and told Pastor Hunt that within 48 hours he would see Him move on the church’s behalf. A 48-hour shut-in was called and when it ended the doors were opened for New Community to move to 12435C Mattawoman Drive.
After 16 years at their previous location, Pastor Hunt received news that the facility will be torn down. For two months Pastor
Hunt searched until the Lord led him to 3480 Catterton Place, Suite 101, Waldorf, MD 20602 which is now their new worship location.
